New Series: Sticker Shock on Discovery Channel

 •

04/25/18 Update: New air date is Monday, April 30, 10 PM EST.

Variety just got the scoop on a brand new series. It’s a car show, so naturally, we have to tell you about it. Sticker Shock will be premiering on Discovery Channel, Monday, April 30 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. We’re already excited that the preview (see link) shows a few BendPak four-post lifts. So, at the very least, they have great taste in equipment!

Stick Shock is Discovery Channel’s latest car show

Sticker Shock promises to be a car show for gearheads, auto enthusiasts and everyday television bingers alike. It’s not a mechanical breakdown or anything limited to the DIY community, so it should appeal to a wider family audience. Think Storage Wars and Pawn Stars meets the Barrett-Jackson auction. That kind of thing.

Host Dennis Pittsenbarger will be accompanied by a team of expert appraisers: Randy Carlson, Addison Brown, Nick Smith and Todd Wertman.

According to the Variety piece:

[Appraisers] will investigate the history and condition of a wide range of vehicles to determine their true value… The show will also unveil the history and memories of the cars…

Basically, Sticker Shock will feature regular folks bringing in their classic cars, presumably to get rich overnight with a high appraisal. That means the experts are going to tell them what their car is actually worth. It’ll be exciting to see a few dreams fulfilled, and just as entertaining to watch a few pie-in-the-sky hopefuls come crashing back down to earth. (That’s probably the “shock” part, right?)’

It’s also interesting that the show will bring the “memories” of the cars into play. Our best guess is that the car owners will share their stories alongside the family history of the vehicle. With all of us, important memories and feelings become associated with our cars, and it can be hard to get rid of them for that reason, even if the price is right. We’re excited to see where this goes. Plus, we’ve never seen car lifts used on an appraisal show before. Most likely, the appraisers will need to look under the car for signs of rust/damage, to check for original parts, etc. Expect to see a lot of car hoisting through the inspections.

What do you think? Are you excited about Sticker Shock? Let us know in the comments below!

My very rare Ford Falcon Cayuse (one of only two made) will be featured in the 1st show of the series.

Your BendPak Lift was used as you mentioned. I was a extremely well made and solid lift.

I wished I would have one in my garage.

I’m excited to see it, but then again I could be a little bias Hope anyone who watches, enjoys it.

We’re excited to see it too! You’re allowed to be a little biased when your face is on the cover.

Best of luck to the cast and crew!

Very excited to see the show! My 1937 Dodge D5 will be featured in Episode 5, at least that is where we taped. It was a cool experience to be able to discuss the underside of the car with the appraiser as well.

  6. Max Glassburg writes:

Grant, congrats! It’s a rare thing to get a car appraised from underneath by an expert like that, especially on TV. Can’t wait to see how it all worked out.

My 1951 Kaiser Traveler Deluxe 2 door hatchback was filmed as well.

John, that sounds great! Any idea which episode you’ll be on? Of course, we respect that you can’t say much until the show airs.

Rose, we’ll all first have to hear from Discovery about season 2. Likely a Facebook page announcement, but there isn’t an official one for Sticker Shock. In other words, we’re not entirely sure yet. We’ll keep an eye out, but let us know if you figure something out first.

    Thanks,

    Hi Adilita,

We’d love to help, but Sticker Shock is actually not BendPak’s show, and we’re not part of the car casting process. You can, however, post your best car photos on Instagram or Twitter and use #bendpak and #stickershock and #discoverychannel. That combination of 3 hashtags will get your cars out there and visible to the world.

We’ll let you know if we find out season 2 is casting. Thanks for watching and reading!

We had our Camaro appraised by Muscle Car Appraisal at their shop in Southington CT. They had 3 four post lifts. IIRC, they were BendPaks and the appraiser stated they needed a quality lift to use on a daily basis. Something about lots of ups and downs in the business. Looks like BendPak is the appraisers choice.

  21. Max Glassburg writes:

Thanks for sharing that Brittani! Hope you got a good deal.

Owned by me for almost 54 years, is a rare (only 1440 made), loaded 1964 Oldsmobile Starfire Convertible! Always garaged, it is almost all original with no body rust. Ready for restoration. Driven and licensed until 2017. I have all the documentation and photos.

Interesting story: It was purchased for me by my Dad in 1964 to replace the 1961 model that was stolen in Jackson Wyoming by an escaped murder from California! That car was recovered and returned to me when said criminal was arrested while robbing a liquor in California.

In 1964 I moved to Casper Wyoming with 2 Olds Convertibles! The ’64 and I are still together!

Like to know the value, it is for sale. PS, I’m old and don’t know how to “get it out there”!
    Thanks, Laurel

I own a 1936 Chevrolet Suburban Carryall that was originally built at the Baltimore, Maryland GM plant. The truck hasn’t left the state of Maryland since built.
I bought the truck in 2000 and went through a long period of time, frustration and money to get it 98% finished. It was a completely original truck in fair to good condition but needed complete restoration. The exterior is 95% original but the drive train & suspension only withe interior has been modified to make it more comfortable to drive & handle on today’s highways. I’d love to have my 1st generation Chevy Suburban Carryall accepted for inclusion in the show. Thanks, Mike Szuba
