SANTA PAULA, CA: September, 2020—Throughout its almost 50-year history, BendPak and parent company BendPak Holdings has been in a state of constant evolution to meet the needs of its customers. They have yet to stop growing their product line and expanding their customer base. Their west coast headquarters underwent a 70,000 square-foot expansion in 2017, and an additional 50,000-square-foot expansion just blocks away is expected to be completed this month. Early this year, they opened a new 100,000-square-foot distribution center near Mobile, Alabama, to better serve their customers in the eastern United States. It’s the Mobile, Alabama location that is slated for their next bullish expansion.
This time next year, BendPak’s next stage of evolution will be the completion of a massive 80,000-square-foot warehouse adjacent to their existing Mobile operations. Thirty short days after the opening of their Alabama distribution center, BendPak purchased the adjoining acreage allowing them to expand their footprint and establish their presence on the east on a much larger scale. Demolition of an existing office building and warehouse on the property has been completed, signifying it’s ready-set-go time for the next construction phase.
The new warehouse will feature four-dock doors, a super-wide ramp door, and an additional 13,000-square-feet of covered flatbed staging and loading area. Administrative offices, conference room and call-center are being added to facilitate further growth.
“It’s hard to believe that construction is already underway,” said BendPak Executive Vice President Jeff Kritzer. “When we initiate a plan, we don’t like to waste time. Once a decision is made, it’s all hands on deck. That’s one thing I think we do better than anyone else. The idea of our first East Coast expansion only materialized in the fall of 2019, yet just six short months later, we’re already operational.”
According to BendPak President and CEO Don Henthorn, “This next phase of expansion comes with an ambitious strategic vision, building upon our heritage of professional quality products. While we will still retain our headquarters in Santa Paula, California, we will continue looking for ways to bring our products geographically closer to our customers, a huge driver behind this expansion.”
The new distribution center is strategically located in Mobile County, Alabama, in the heart of one of America’s largest logistic hotspots. The new fulfillment operation will offer next-day or two-day delivery to a large share of BendPak’s customer base on the East Coast. BendPak’s headquarters and distribution multiplex in Santa Paula, California, will continue offering shipping and order fulfilment services to approximately 15 western states. BendPak plans to continue its expansion efforts in order to improve geographic shipping advantages.
