How NASPO chooses contractors

NASPO BendPak and Ranger Products

Each NASPO contract is handled by a Lead State that takes charge of a certain contract or field of contracts; it is not necessary for states to compete against one another for better deals or concern themselves with repetitive bidding. Every member in every state gets the same great NASPO contract deal. Prospective contractors are not merely chosen; there is a brief but highly competitive bidding period for a well-defined contract.

In order to win this contract, we at BendPak had to show that we offer better price points, provide better after-the-sale service and supply a superior product warranty. We also had to demonstrate the overall quality of our car lifts and garage equipment. Full ALI/ETL Certification is crucial, and our NASPO Lead State would not have considered our vehicle lifts if didn’t have it. NASPO contracts are extremely competitive and very difficult to land, as the states that select contractors make choices that affect thousands of purchasers nationwide. With BendPak’s NASPO contract, we will handle thousands of deals worth millions of dollars in vehicle lifts and garage equipment. As a successful business, we understand and appreciate NASPO’s need to be selective.

By landing a NASPO contract for car lifts, garage equipment, tire changers, wheel balancers and brake lathes, BendPak effectively became the nation’s single-largest provider of government-contracted auto equipment. It’s a massive testament to our resources and abilities. We anticipate a terrific BendPak-NASPO relationship for many, many years to come.

NASPO History

WSCA NASPO history

Starting in 1993, the National Association of State Procurement Officials (NASPO) operated with the Western States Contracting Alliance (WSCA) to procure government contracts for all 50 states, Washington D.C. and territories of the United States. In 2013, the WSCA merged with the NASPO Cooperative.

The main purpose of this non-profit cooperative is to lower the price that individual states (or other entities) pay for hundreds of contractually procured goods and services. The contracts only serve public entities, such as government bodies, and are not available to corporations, private organizations or individuals. Also, NASPO contracts ensure the most reliable contractor partnerships and the best warranties.

What is the WSCA?

The WSCA (Western States Communication Association) was a government contract procurement body that lasted from 1993 – 2013, although it did merge with the NASPO Cooperative in 2006. WSCA consisted of 15 western states that were still under the umbrella of NASPO, but WSCA contracts operated within a set geographic region.

In 2013, the WSCA merged with NASPO to become the single member, non-profit, limited liability company known as the NASPO ValuePoint Cooperative Purchasing Organization. While some people still mistakenly refer to their current contracts as WSCA contracts—out of habit or misinformation—they are really just referring to NASPO contracts.

In short, NASPO, formerly WSCA, is the name to remember.

Does it cost money to join NASPO?

There are no membership or initiation fees for government entities looking to benefit from NASPO contracts.
