BendPak certifies its car lifts with the gold certification badge of the Automotive Lift Institute. It’s excellent news that NASPO has recognized the importance of this certification in choosing BendPak as its contracted manufacturer of vehicle lifts and garage equipment. The gold ALI / ETL certification badge is the only nationally recognized standard for automotive lifts, whether they’re NASPO contract two-post lifts, four-post lifts, scissor lifts or mobile lifts.

BendPak ALI CertificationANSI/ALI ALCTV-2011 continues as the American National Standard for governing requirements for the design, construction, testing and validation of automotive lifts that are certified and third-party marked in accordance with the requirements of the ALI/ETL Certification Program. There are now companion standards ANSI/ALI ALOIM (Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection, and Maintenance of Automotive Lifts) that expand the requirements previously embraced by ANSI/ALI B153.1 pertaining to the responsibilities of the owners of automotive lifts and/or the employers of personnel who use automotive lifts. Also, ANSI/ALI ALIS (Safety Requirements for Installation and Service of Automotive Lifts) expands the requirements previously embraced by ANSI/ALI B153.1 pertaining to the responsibilities of installation and service companies of automotive lifts.

All BendPak lifts that are certified and third-party marked in accordance with the requirements of the ALI/ETL Certification Program meet the following strict design criteria. All vehicle lifts included in our NASPO contract are fully certified as such.

  1. MATERIAL: All structural materials used to make BendPak lifts provide a strength factor of not less than three (3) for ductile metal, and not less than five (5) for non-ductile metal, unless otherwise specified.

  2. WELDING/WELDERS: All BendPak welding procedures are qualified, and our welders are certified, and weld joint design conforms to the applicable sections of ANSI/AWS 01.1/01.1 M, Structural Welding-Steel, and/or CSA Standard W59M, Welded Steel Construction (Metal Arc Welding), for all welds located in the load path or in synchronizing assemblies.

  3. PUMPS: BendPak hydraulic pumps are tested to withstand fluid pressures not less than one hundred fifty (150) percent of the pressure required to operate the lift at its rated load capacity.

  4. HYDRAULIC HOSE: Hydraulic hoses used on all BendPak lifts are subjected to withstand pressures of not less than four hundred (400) percent of the pressure required to operate the lift at its rated load capacity and conform to the guidelines established in SAEJ517.

  5. VALVES AND FITTINGS: Fittings and Valves conform to the guidelines established in SAEJ514, Hydraulic Tube Fittings and are subjected to withstand pressures of not less than three hundred (300) percent of the pressure required to operate the lift at its rated load capacity.

  6. HYDRAULIC CYLINDERS: BendPak hydraulic cylinders are subjected to withstand pressures of not less than three hundred (300) percent of the pressure required to operate the lift at its rated load capacity for ductile parts; and not less than five hundred (500) percent of the pressure required to operate the lift at its rated load capacity for non-ductile parts.

  7. WIRE ROPE: Wire rope assemblies (including end connections and anchorages) used for suspension, or used for a slack wire rope or chain device, have a breaking strength of not less than five (5) times the tensile force at the applied load. Wire rope assemblies (including end connections and anchorages) used purely for synchronization of two superstructures have a breaking strength of not less than three (3) times the tensile force at the applied load.

  8. CHAIN: Chain assemblies (including end connections and anchorages) used for suspension, or used for a slack wire rope or chain device, have a breaking strength of not less than five (5) times the tensile force at the applied load. Leaf chain assemblies (including end connections and anchorages) used purely for synchronization of two superstructures have a breaking strength of not less than three (3) times the tensile force at the applied load.

  9. SHEAVES, DRUMS, AND SPROCKETS: BendPak lift sheaves, drums, sprockets and their associated components subject to wear (such as bearings, axles and shafts), have a strength factor of not less than five (5), based on the applied load. Sheaves, drums and sprockets for chain or wire rope used purely for synchronization of two superstructures have a strength factor of not less than three (3) based on the applied load. Chain and wire rope sheaves, drums, and sprockets incorporate means to prevent unintentional displacement of chain or wire rope.

  10. FASTENING DEVICES: Fasteners including anchor bolts have a strength factor of not less than four (4) based on the applied load.

  11. END CONNECTIONS, CLEVISES AND ANCHORS: Connecting means for chain or wire rope used for suspension or for a slack wire rope or chain device have a breaking strength of not less than five (5) times the tensile force at the applied load. Connecting means for chain or wire rope used purely for synchronization of two superstructures have a breaking strength of not less than three (3) times the tensile force at the applied load.

  12. ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT AND WIRING: All electrical components, wiring and connectors are listed, recognized or tested by a NRTL for compliance with nationally recognized codes or standards, and be suitable for the intended use.

  13. INADVERTENT LOWERING MOTION: BendPak lifts are provided with an automatic means that inhibit inadvertent lowering motion.

  14. LOWERING SPEED: The maximum average lowering speed of a BendPak lift is twenty (20) feet per minute when loaded to its rated capacity.

  15. RUNWAY STOPS: BendPak four-post lifts feature automatic stops or fixed stops on the runways as a secondary means to restrain the vehicle from inadvertently rolling off either end of the runways when raised.

  16. SAFETY LOCKS / LOAD HOLDING DEVICES: All BendPak lifts that are certified and third party marked incorporate a mechanical device (e.g. a latching system) to prevent downward movement of more than six (6) inches after stopping motion. Function begins within twenty-four (24) inches of rise [six (6) inches of rise for wheels-free-devices], and continues to the full rise position.

  17. STRENGTH OF SWING ARM PIVOT RESTRAINTS: All BendPak lifts that are certified and third party marked incorporate swing-arm-pivot restraints capable of resisting a horizontal force of one-hundred fifty (150) pounds without permanent deformation when applied at the end of the fully extended, unloaded arm.

  18. SLACK WIRE ROPE OR CHAIN DEVICE: All BendPak lifts that are certified and third party marked incorporate a slack wire rope or chain device that causes automatic braking of the supported structure if the suspension is broken or slackened. Free fall is limited to ten (10) percent of travel, and the load is maintained at all levels above twenty-four (24) inches of rise.
