BendPak Making Waves with Business Technology Implementation
October 2nd, 2009Our Chief Technology Officer, Sina Moatamed, was recently interviewed by Managing Automation for his perspective on SAP’s decision to moderate the new product roll-out, as well as the benefits of BendPak’s ground-floor acceptance of this cutting-edge system. Here’s an excerpt:
SAP’s decision to moderate the BBD rollout “told me that they weren’t going to get ahead of themselves, and they weren’t going to try to sell vapor,” said Sina Moatamed, chief technology officer at BendPak/Ranger Inc., a $60 million manufacturer of lifts, air compressors, and other automotive service equipment.
BendPak/Ranger committed to using BBD in mid-2008 after deciding it needed to replace its existing applications, which consisted of Sage’s MAS 200 system and two different CRM systems used by the sales and service organizations. None of those applications were integrated, and the company had not yet implemented MAS 200’s inventory management capability, so inventory was being managed using spreadsheets.
After deciding it did not want to upgrade its IT infrastructure to run a new, integrated ERP system, BendPak/Ranger opted for a SaaS deployment. The company settled on BBD as the only SaaS offering capable of managing its manufacturing operations after satisfying itself that SAP had a viable plan for supporting third-party applications integrated with BBD, Moatamed said.
The company went live on BBD on Jan. 1, 2009, and the system has helped BendPak/Ranger reduce inventories by 30%. The company plans to implement feature pack 2.0, which, among other things, will enable an available-to-promise process. BendPak/Ranger is also working with a third-party developer, Pacejet Logistics, on a BBD add-on application for managing outbound logistics.
As our systems continue to mature, BendPak is able to increase the scope of its already impressive support infrastructure. Click here for the full article, and make sure to check out Sina’s biography on this site.
